The news item below on News24 caught my eye.

It tells one all you need to know about why this country is on the skids and probably on its way to a civil war.

"Parly committee chair wants government to stop job cuts at DionWired, Masscash"

Walmart's Massmart may axe 1 440 jobs in South Africa...

The chairperson of Parliament's Select Committee on Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Tourism Employment and Labour on Wednesday called for their respective departments in the executive to intervene in planned retrenchments at Massmart...

The retail giant announced on Monday that it may cut some 1 400 jobs as it plans to close 34 DionWired and Masscash stores.

The report covered other he said-she said stuff from government spokesmen but they all offered the same old story.

In summary, the ANC ruling elite cannot, and do not wish to connect the dots, the economy is anathema to them.

They just don't get it.

The fact that there is not an attractive return to be had should raise many red flags besides the loss of jobs - which are a tragic side show.

The real issues are huge.

Costs of doing business in South Africa are too high and there is no way to reduce them with the ANC's "magical outcomes" and business hostile mindset in place.

Government's job in respect of business should be to get out of the way.
