I live in the Western Cape. Water is very scarce here. Currently, we are experiencing a severe and prolonged drought. Many predicted this, but there was not much preparation. Up north there were some extraordinary weather patterns as well. Heavy storms. Hail, tornados, lightning and thunder. People died.
In other parts of the world there are floods. Mud slides. Whole houses are consumed by raging torrents. People and animals die. Property is destroyed on a mind boggling scale. I am sure many of the people in those parts of the world don't even know where Cape Town is and what its current predicament is.
We humans are really tiny, insignificant creatures in the face of natural forces. This realisation keeps me humble and in awe of the creation - subservient to the will of my God. Nothing I can do or say, can change this.
That is why I can never be so arrogant as to proclaim that "God is not happy with Cape Town ... It will rain when the people of the Western Province repent".
I also think it is wrong to arrange an economic event in the name of the Creator.
