We decided to invest in South Africa 13 years ago. We identified an opportunity in tourism and invested in a prime piece of land. We then embarked on a long and costly process of getting an environmental authorization done which eventually took nine years.
After overcoming all the odds and avoiding to pay the many bribes that were demanded of us, one of the state role players (or persons working within that organization) decided that our plan was good enough to steal and engineered a plan to dispossess us of our opportunity and make it their own.
They then proceeded to purchase land in our immediate area (using state funds) and refused to grant us a letter / authorization for access to the road which they decided they needed to expropriate.
So my message for potential investors in South Africa - take your money and expertise to another country - any country but South Africa. So much for creating jobs and developing an economy. Everyone here is on the take - one of the most corrupt nations on the planet.
