Let us not start 2019 polarised over one sheep we cannot resurrect

02 January 2019, 11:34

Perhaps the slaughtering of the sheep on Clifton beach was a provocation, perhaps it was a sacrifice to banish the spirits of racism.

I do not condone animal slaughter in areas not designated for the purpose, and municipal by-laws etc are there for a purpose...

The sheep is dead. Nothing we can say or do now changes that.

The animals you and I ate as boerewors, roasts, biltong etc are dead too, and nothing can change that. Just because you and I didn't go and watch them killed in an abattoir, doesn't mean they didn't suffer possibly more terror, hearing and smelling the death of ones that went before them, than the Clifton sheep did.

Watch video clips of what happens in an abattoir- I am sure the animal rights activists have such on YouTube.

Let us not start 2019 polarized over an event that is finished and that we cannot change.

If you feel strongly about animal rights, stop or decrease the amount of meat you consume.

Donate to an animal charity, adopt a rescue pet.

There is nothing more you can do for that one dead sheep.

If you feel strongly about not breaking the law, don't speed, don't download/buy pirated movies, don't buy illegal ciggarettes, don't have sundowners on Chapman's Peak drive etc.

But let's try to be one nation in 2019. Please.

Responsibility is key, but the st...

There are many reasons why a Zodwa born in Site B, Khayelitsha is already disadvantaged compared to a Stacy born in Constantia. Their lives and opportunities are vastly different and though I believe university education can tip the scales, Zodwa still will need to be a provider for 5-10 hungry family members.  Read more...
