The recent announcement by Multichoice that they will not be renewing their contract with ANN7 leaves a few unanswered questions.
Their assertions that there was nothing "wrong" with their previous dealings with this "controversial" news channel does not stand up to scrutiny. Multichoice would have us believe that the previous contract was completely above board and had nothing to do with their lobbying the Dept. of Communications.
If this is so, why the sudden change of heart. If the contract was previously warranted then something substantional must have changed to make it now unwarranted. I would hazard a guess that it is simply no longer usefull politically.
As to the editorial policies of ANN7, that is an entirely seperate issue. Whilst I personally disagree with their slant on politics in SA, their right to air such views is important and I would defend this right. Most of the views expressed on ANN7 are in fact poisonous to the country, but, I would rather have such views publically aired where they can be debated, instead of festering underground.
The SA public are quite capable of making up their own minds as to what is true and correct, we do not need Multichoice to decide for us.
