Not the Matric Results you hoped for?

If you did not get the Matric Results you really wanted, you still have lots of choices to study.

Bachelors Pass

Your University application may still be turned down if you got your Bachelors Pass. Some of our universities have up to ten times more candidates than readily available seats for first-year students. So your Bachelors Pass does not ensure you a spot at a university.

Every education provider sets its own entrance requirements. And the requirements for various fields of study will likewise be different. For example, the entrance criteria to become a medical doctor is different from the entryway criteria to become a legal practitioner.

Did you get a rejection letter from the learning organization where you applied? Make certain you understand why you were declined. Do you require better marks? Do you need the right subjects? Did you apply too late?

Think about a different course. There are many different courses in the area you want to study. Interested in business courses? Studying to CIMA or ACCA or an ICB certification also gets you started on a business profession.

Diploma Pass

A Diploma Pass implies that you can apply to study a Diploma course. You can study at a TVET or FET College. Or do a Diploma course at a University or University of Technology.

Have you applied and not gained entry? Do not quit. There are lots of private training organisations offering Diploma studies. If you apply as soon as you have your outcomes, you might very well still get accepted at one of these organizations.

Certificate Pass

With your Certificate Pass you can study at a TVET or FET College. You can study at an institution offering the Trades; for instance a Beauty School, Chef School or IT College.

When it relates to finding a work, then a career-related course will help you a lot. The Certificate courses are frequently focused on mentoring you how to work in a particular profession. Such training makes you job-ready.

Re-marking some of your Exam Papers

If you believe your exam was marked unjustly and you believe you can get a higher mark if it was re-marked, then apply to have one or more of your examination papers re-marked.

You can apply to have it re-checked if you believe not all the questions were marked. That indicates a check that your questions have actually been marked. And likewise a check that the marks have been counted properly.

Keep in mind the cost and the deadline. If you plan for one of these choices, then you must apply right away as soon as you have your outcomes. Applications for this will close in the next 2 weeks.

Failed one or two subjects? You can get the supplementary exams

If you failed no more than two subjects, you can apply to write a supplementary examination. You can also request supplementary exams if you were medically unfit to write the examinations in November. You must have proof of this in the type of a letter from your doctor.

You can likewise write supplementary exams if you did not fulfill the admission requirements for university. The cut-off for applications for the supplementary exams will be in the next 2 weeks. You need to act right away when you have the results.

The supplementary examinations are written in February and March. And the results are released towards the end of April.

Re-do your Matric

If you do not qualify for the supplementary examination, you can re-do matric. Remember, your school will have a brand-new matric class that they need to get space for.

If you understand why you did not get the results you really wanted, and you understand that another year at school will make a genuine impact, then call your school and apply for another year.

Private Education

In South Africa we have many quality private education organizations. Both for Higher Education, as well as on College level (FET or TVET Colleges). They are frequently not as pricey as a full-time university.

You will get options of both local and global qualifications.

Sometimes the service you get in private education is better since they compete for your business. Private education providers certainly do not want to lose you.

Distance Learning

For the first-year student who has to study and work at the very same time, distance studying is a good alternative. It also works as an option for undergraduates who can not get a seat in a full-time learning organization.

You could still study a career related course in 2017 if you can not get into the institution you wanted. No need to give up on your dreams.

Fees and costs

Universities will charge you study costs, as well as provide you a list of books you should buy. The books are not included in your course fees.

With distance studying, normally all your expenses are included. You still need to take responsibility for understanding all the costs. If the course they offer has an external exam, or if it is connected to a professional institute, there can be extra institute charges and examination fees.

Study something that does not require Matric

Matric is an entry to more studies. It does not prepare you for any occupation or career. And you can do career-orientated courses without matric.

I work for Skills Academy, and here are a few of the areas where you can start your course without matric:

Bookkeepers and Accountants

Office Administrators and Office Managers

Business Management

Public Sector Accounting

Forensic Investigations

Beauty Studies

Entrepreneurship

Management Accounting

Project Management

Occupational Health and Safety

Scarce Skills

Scarce Skills are skills that have been determined as being in high demand.

The sort of occupations where South Africa have a scarcity of skilled individuals are: Trainee Accountant, Debt Collector, Finance Manager, Management Consultant, Office Administrator, General Accountant, General Clerk, Accounts Clerk and Payroll Clerk.

These positions have been recognized by FASSET (the SETA for Finance, Accounting, Management Consulting and other Financial Services), in their Scarce Skills Guide 2015.

What Certifications can you study to a Scarce Skill?

You can start an ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) certification at below-matric level. This suggests that entryway to the course is simple. The ICB offers a series of Bookkeeping, Accounting, Office Administration, Business organization Studies and Entrepreneurship qualifications.

These certifications are recognized by FASSET. And in South Africa you will get that a lot of companies that recognise the ICB.

The ICB certifications are provided by home course colleges and academies. This makes it accessible to full-time students, as well as to working grownups who need to study while they also have a full-time profession in the daytime.

Office Administration-- A Scarce Skill

In the FASSET list of scarce skills occupations, you will also get Office Administrator and General Clerk. The days when "secretary" was a low-level, low paying occupation, is over.

Today we call these people Office Administrators. And they are typically the heart that keeps the organisation going. These are individuals that make sure the organisational operations work effectively day after day.

They are accountable for a large range of tasks ... from things as simple as doing administrative jobs (filing, typing, basic research study), to complex duties like heading up Operational Departments in larger companies.

An Office Administration certification from the ICB gives you a well-rounded background in all the general management domains of a business. It can set you on the path to management with jobs like Administrative Manager, Office Manager and even Public Relations Manager. It will help you see all the different profession path choices in front of you.

How to get qualified

The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) certifications offer a method in for anybody. If you don't have matric (like the majority of South Africans), then you can start at NQF3 level. You can work you way up from there. The highest qualification you can attain is NQF level 6. That is a qualification 2 levels higher than matric.

Two of the top qualifications are:

  1. National Diploma: Financial Accounting

  2. National Diploma: Office Administration

So there is a way for learners who never ever complete matric, to get certified, recognised certifications at NQF6 or National Diploma level.

I work for Skills Academy. We are among numerous colleges who offer these qualifications in combination with the ICB. We are a Home Course College, so we help individuals who have to study and work at the exact same time.
