Runners' club doing its part for the community

2018-11-09 10:43

As a runner one spends a lot of time running in and around the community.

There is always a friendly face that will applaud and say keep going.

Correctional Services St Albans Athletics Club in Port Elizabeth decided it's time to give back to the community that is always there for each runner.

We as an Athletics Club engaged in a charity drive. After a lot of deliberation we decided on Bet Sheekoom women's shelter for women in crisis.

Bet Sheekoom was established in 2001. They help women of any age, race, socio-economic back round or faith.

Working with the SAPS, Rape Crisis Centre and Department of Social Development Bet Sheekoom is also a safe haven for victims of rape, abuse, and human trafficking.

We collected varies items ranging from basic toiletries, clothing and food.

We would like to challenge other running clubs to give back to the community.
