Are you a teacher - a good teacher?I am not referring to schools and universities. I am referring to parents, working colleagues, friends & family. In fact, we are all teachers sometime in our life. Teaching is the one profession that gives rise to all other professions. A woman that gives birth to a baby, starts her teaching that very moment. She takes care of the baby according to what she knows best with a little advice from here and there. She teaches him to talk, walk, dance etc. With all that is available to her, she prepares him for pre-school (grade R). He must know at least some of the colours, shapes, alphabets and so on. From pre-school to primary school to high school, teaching does not only take place at the learning institution. In fact, it starts at home with those around you. This teaching is passed on from grandparents, to parents to their children and the cycle goes on. Loving, caring and nurturing is a form of teaching. The way you love and care for your sons and daughters will also lead them to love and care for their off spring someday. Universities and other learning institutions teach on a particular profession. They do not teach you daily life skills. This you must learn from family. To be respectful and appreciative of your elders, to manage a home, your finances and not to live recklessly are teachings that you must keep for life and pass onto your children. Teaching in the workplace is also very crucial. Employees that speak, read and write English very well should use this to their advantage and assist fellow employees that lack these basic skills. Older employees must keep up with changes in technology and continuously upgrade their skills so that they are equipped and able to work well with new and younger employees. Most employers prefer keeping their older employees even after they have passed retirement age. The mixture of stability and experience works well with new blood and fresh ideas. Older brothers and sisters must share their trials and tribulations with their siblings and steer them in the right direction. Encourage them from a young age to read a lot and to learn something new everyday. Many people will cross our life’s path but not all will leave an imprint. Some will be a distant memory while the one person that taught you something will have a lasting and positive impact in your life. Be a good, patient teacher in everything that you do, whether at home or in the workplace.Good teachers impart sound knowledge and eager learners will cherish this acquisition for life. After all it is priceless and no one can steal or take away the knowledge you have.
