The DA and that Israel trip

2017-01-18 13:22

I must get this out of the way. I am a card holding member of the Democratic Alliance. I am not privy to the movements of the Leader, Mmusi Maimane and am most certainly not part of the decision makers. But I trust my leaders to make decisions that will aid South Africa and make it a better country.

The picture looks bad. The fact that there are no names to the Palestinian officials, who met with the Federal Leader, looks bad. The fact that the picture with the Prime Minister of Israel, found its way to social media was an oversight. It should not have happened.

The history of Israel and Palestine is well documented and any South African political party should thread carefully when tackling this issue. The world over has condemned many despicable acts by Israel and has called for that government to cease its illegal occupation of Palestinian land. The UN and supported by South African government, has called for a two state resolution.

It is very important that we must have context whenever we interrogate issues. The ANC caught wind of this picture and went on the offensive. This just goes to show that desperation makes one do unsavory things.

The DA has officially clarified the matter, but the ANC and many people claim this to be a cover up. The irresponsible politicking by the ANC and accusation that “should the DA govern, they plan to take us back to apartheid”, I find it disgusting and disgraceful. This goes to show that the ANC is under tremendous pressure, especially after 2016 Local Government Election results. Their incompetence over the past 22 years is finally catching up to them, and like headless chickens they are stumbling and fumbling along and taking millions of South Africans along for the ride.

On a 1999 visit to Israel and Palestine, the late Nelson Mandela said: "To the many people who have questioned why I came, I say: Israel worked very closely with the apartheid regime. I say: I've made peace with many men who slaughtered our people like animals. Israel cooperated with the apartheid regime, but it did not participate in any atrocities." He reiterated his unwavering opposition to Israel control of Gaza, the West Bank and other areas.

It is no doubt that apartheid South Africa collaborated with Israel on many things including nuclear weapons. But, post-apartheid South Africa is currently in friendly economic ties with Israel.

As per The South African Embassy in Israel website:

This shows that billions of rands have left our shores to Israel and SA received substantial amounts as well.

If the South African government under the ANC is truly saying that they are in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and actually stand by it. How is it possible that SA has remained in trade with Israel?

The billions of rands in trade with Israel have aided in the further disenfranchising of the Palestinian people, and yet the ANC claims to be in unity with the people of Palestine.

When the Dalai Lama wanted to attend Archbishop Tutu’s birthday, the government refused him entry at the insistence of the Chinese government and at the expense of the people of Tibet.

The rage over the recent trip by the Executive Mayor of Tshwane to Taiwan is further proof that the ANC is playing “double agent” as SA has trade agreements with Taiwan.

If the ANC cared about International law and human rights; how is it that the Zimbabwean people continue to suffer at the hands of the dictator Robert Mugabe?

There is a huge lack of diplomacy in the ANC. They seem to be content with selling their souls and that of the country to the highest bidders. If the party many South Africans entrusted with governing this land had any semblance of morality or humanity, South Africa would be not only in BRICS, but it would be clear in its position against human rights violations of the people of Tibet, Russia and all over the world.

The ANC likes to pretend to champion human rights but what they stand for is fattening their wallets and selling this country to the highest bidders.

To those critical of the DA’s visit to the Middle East (Israel & Palestine). How about you first give Mmusi an opportunity to state his case before judgment? It is quite possible that this was a “Listen and Learn” trip.

I implore all of you DA detractors, to study and read information readily available on the issue of Israel and Palestine ties to South Africa. It is important that you ask yourselves:

How is it that I am still consuming products made in Israel but claim to be in solidarity with Palestine? Ask yourselves - who is really fooling who?
