Now that Sanral are becoming really abusive, it might be a good idea to look at the truth about e-tolling. It was foisted on an unsuspecting public, with minimal consultation, under the guise of the 'Soccer World Cup.' It is a massively cumbersome system, riddled with errors, done with an overseas company previously PROVEN to have paid bribes in the Armsgate scandal. And the prime purpose was to provide a massive cash cow for certain ANC individuals. Everyone knows that roads have to be constructed and maintained. It is totally possible to ring-fence our ever-increasing petrol levies and use them for roads (it was done before) - but then it is not so easy to steal from the fund. Senior member after senior member of Sanral and their affiliated company, ETC, have resigned. Sanral is in dire straits. E-tolling has been rejected in its entirety by the Cape and by at least 70% of Gauteng motorists. It burdens the poor with extra costs - even if they don't own a car - because of the huge costs levied on delivery vehicles, delivering milk, bread, mealie meal etc. This is unquestionably going to count in the forthcoming elections. Even workers supposed to be paid by Sanral haven't been paid for 4 months, and are blocking highways. E-tolls are a massive ugly albatross around the ANC's neck, and it WILL pull them down. That's the only good thing about e-tolls.
