13 Nigerian troops, policeman killed in Boko Haram attack

Boko Haram jihadists ambushed a military convoy in northeastern Nigeria, killing 13 soldiers and a policeman, the army said on Wednesday, while an officer put the death toll at 18.

The convoy "fought through an ambush staged by Boko Haram terrorists" late on Monday on a highway linking Borno state capital Maiduguri with Damaturu in neighbouring Yobe state, an army statement said.

However an officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said 17 soldiers plus one policeman had died.
