3 in court on 14 rape counts

Pietermaritzburg - A 30-year-old man and two youths appeared in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court on Monday charged with repeatedly raping a woman.

Sibusiso Gwala, 30, Lindokuhle Mlaba, and Siyabonga Sibisi, both 18, allegedly fought for "their turns" and while one was raping her, the others made her perform fellatio, the 24-year-old woman testified in court.

They pleaded not guilty to the 14 charges of rape and one of aggravated robbery.

The victim told the court that she and her boyfriend were waylaid by the gang while walking home at about 22:00 in May last year.

Her boyfriend managed to escape and called the police who arrested the three on the same night. They were still with their victim.

In a dark spot, Sibisi was allegedly the first to rape her but Mlaba allegedly complained to him saying he was taking too long and said, "that with another girl he also took too long".

Mlaba then allegedly removed Sibisi before he ejaculated.

The three then raped the woman and forced her to perform oral sex several times thereafter.

The case is set down for the rest of the week.
