Cape Town - The ANC's Western Cape conference has been moved to a cheaper venue after its planned sponsorship fell through.
Originally planned for the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), the two-day event will now be held at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology's Bellville campus.
The party's outgoing provincial secretary, Songezo Mjongile, said that two days before the conference, the alternative venue had to be confirmed as the sponsor had not yet paid for the CTICC.
“The ANC is a [non-government organisation],” he said. “We are dependent on the generosity of sponsors.”
Mjongile insisted the venue was not important, as proceedings could have taken place “under a tree or in a back room”.
Provincial ANC chairperson Marius Fransman said the rest of the conference would still go according to plan as "the respective service providers have been redirected".
The two-day conference will be held on Saturday and Sunday and a new provincial executive committee will be elected.
