Kimberley - Judgment in the trial of ANC provincial chairperson John Block and two others was postponed until October in the Northern Cape High Court on Wednesday.
Block, Alvin Botes and Trifecta director Christo Scholtz are accused of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
“I was hoping to deliver judgment today. But I am not ready. The earliest next opportunity to do it is 13 and 14 October,” Judge Mathebe Phatshoane said.
This is only the latest in a series of delays in a trial that began over a year and a half ago.
The charges relate to government building leases, amounting to millions of rands.
The National Prosecuting Authority alleges the Trifecta Group entered into a number of lease agreements with the Northern Cape social development department in which rentals, or rental space, were grossly inflated.
The accused have pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them or their companies.
A bid was made last year that Judge Phatshoane recuses herself, which was dismissed. Acquittal applications were also dismissed last year by Phatshoane, who said she was satisfied that there was enough evidence on which a court, acting carefully, might reasonably convict the accused.
