Ashley Callie case postponed

Johannesburg - The culpable homicide case relating to the Johannesburg car crash in which actress Ashley Callie died, was postponed in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Magistrate Lalitha Chetty postponed the case to November 20 at 08.30.

The postponement was granted for defence attorney Ronald Lotz to receive and review a copy of the case docket.

Lotz, representing the accused, a well-dressed Nico Pretorius, 21, said they would appoint an expert to review the docket. Lotz said he did not believe the trial would proceed on November 20 because the expert could take between four and six months to review the docket and reconstruct the accident.

Magistrate Chetty also chided her clerk for not providing Lotz with a copy of the docket and received an assurance from the prosecutor that a copy would be provided to the defence on Friday.

The actress, who played Lee Haines in the SABC 3 soapie Isidingo, sustained head injuries during a car crash on the corner of 4th Avenue and Tana Road in Johannesburg on February 8.

The award winning actress died in hospital as a result of her injuries on February 15.
