Boy killed in Krugersdorp accident

Johannesburg - A seven-year-old boy died after being hit by a motorcycle on Maropeng Road in Krugersdorp on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

"When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the body of the young patient lying on the side of the road. Unfortunately the boy had already succumbed to his severe injuries," said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"The driver of the motorcycle has sustained moderate injuries after he had fallen off his vehicle. His motorbike lay a few metres away from him."

The biker told paramedics he had driven around the bend and was unable to avoid colliding with the child, who had apparently run across the road without seeing the oncoming motorcycle.

"Paramedics treated the man for his injuries and transported him to Krugersdorp Hospital for further treatment," said Meiring.

Police were on the scene investigating.
