Cape Town - Cabinet has approved draft legislation making it compulsory for newly qualified veterinarians to perform community service.
The draft veterinary and para-veterinary amendment bill was approved on Wednesday, government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said on Thursday.
"This will help to address the shortage of veterinarians throughout the country, and more specifically the shortage in rural areas," he told a media briefing following Cabinet's regular fortnightly meeting.
