Johannesburg - A Gauteng detective constable is on the run for allegedly killing three people, according to a report on Tuesday.
Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Lesiba Mothiba said on Tuesday that two detectives, accompanied by three informers, were looking for four people wanted for murder on April 17, The Citizen reported.
One of the four was identified by the informers and arrested. However, the person was later declared dead at a hospital, with the detectives having used "unorthodox methods of interrogation, and as a result, the suspect became unconscious", Mothiba told the paper.
The two detectives took the person's dead body with them, and arrested the three remaining suspects. The detectives later allegedly shot the three in the fields outside Carltonville, west of Johannesburg.
One of the victims was able to crawl out of the field to a road, where he was picked up by a motorist and taken to hospital, reported The Citizen.
Deputy provincial commissioner for detective services Major General Vincent Leshabane said the information only emerged late on Monday afternoon, with one of the detectives and two informers subsequently arrested.
Leshabane said it was a only matter of time before the second detective was arrested.
