Django, Sheldon set for reunion on TV

Durban - The reunion of explosive sniffer dog Django and his former handler Sheldon Holland is set to take place on Friday in front of two global television networks.

The eyes of the world will be sharing Holland’s excitement when CBS and Fox News capture the moment when the pair are finally to be reunited.

After more than two years of separation and months of trying to bring the dog home, Django finally arrived at the O.R. Tambo International Airport last week and was kept in quarantine kennels in Kempton Park.

Holland told The Witness on Wednesday that he was so excited that he “cannot even think straight”.

“I am happy, nervous, excited, and impatient at this moment,” Holland said.

Holland said he has been approached by both CBS and Fox News to cover his reunion with Django.

Social media site Facebook has also been abuzz, with Holland’s friends and family flooding his page with enthusiastic messages of support and encouragement.

Vicki Michelle Street posted that she has “goosebumps” awaiting the reunion:

“This is exactly what the world needs to see, a sweet end to a long journey for man and his best friend.”

Earlier this year, The Witness wrote that Holland, a former U.S. American K9 detection services (AMK9) explosives handler who now resides in Pietermaritzburg, was on a two-year quest to bring home his furry partner Django.

The pair formed an unbreakable bond in 2011 when Holland teamed up with Django as part of the AMK9 in Afghanistan before they were separated after 18 months together.

Holland arrived back in Pietermaritzburg while his best friend remained in Afghanistan; however, he promised his furry friend that they would one day live together
