Durban - A police swoop in Phoenix on Wednesday led to the recovery of thousands of mandrax tablets, heroin and guns – as well as the arrest of a man.
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said the cache of drugs and weapons was discovered during a raid at a house in Everham in Phoenix, north of Durban.
“The Phoenix Police Station Drug Team arrested a 36-year-old male for possession of drugs and unlicensed firearms at Everham,” he said.
“Members followed up on information which led them to a certain house in the area. On their arrival, a search was conducted and 4 780 mandrax tablets, 60 straws of heroin and two unlicensed firearms with seven live rounds of ammunition were recovered.”
Zwane added that the firearms seized in the swoop had been despatched to a ballistics testing centre and would be compared against a database of ballistic evidence to ascertain whether or not they have been used in the commission of other crimes.
