Gauteng motorists defiant as e-tolls go live

Cape Town - There was an overwhelming sense of defiance from Gauteng motorists on Twitter  on Tuesday after the e-tolling system went live at midnight.

And there were choice words for those motorists who had purchased e-tags in compliance with the new system.

News24 also received a number of e-mails from users about the new tolling system.

News24 User Trevor Heyl: "It's clear that the public have taken a stand against E-Tolls, by observation today I can see only 10% of motorists have E-tags."

News24 User Lulu: "Not sure if this is due to etolls but we're experiencing bad traffic on Heidelberg road joining Joe Slovo drive into Joburg."

News24 User Trevor Naidoo: "On route to the airport, as a passenger, and noticed that the cars on the road have NO sign of E-tags. From what I can gather is that the +/- 800,000 vehicles that have Tags, are fleet cars(Avis)etc."

News24 User: "Hardly any cars on N3 to kempton park, cool, I like e-toll, and I don't have e-tag."

@News24 we not registering! We fail to see our strength when we stand together. Our President did not listen to the people!

I'm all for it - we're going to have power cuts regardless, so we might as well have some stability to better plan our lives

No thanks! I prefer having periods of no load shedding and we cannot normalise this crisis
