Johannesburg - ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe was doing well in a Johannesburg hospital on Monday after being admitted for a post-surgery check up, the ANC said.
"The ANC would like to assure members of the ANC, our supporters and our alliance partners as well as all South Africans that the SG is recovering well in hospital and we expect him to be discharged soon," said ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu.
"He is also in very high spirits," said Mthembu.
Mantashe, also chairperson of the SA Communist Party, underwent a "minor" operation at the Botshelong Hospital last week, said Mthembu
He returned to the hospital on Sunday evening for a routine check up.
By midday on Monday, he was transferred to Sunward Park private hospital in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg for "special scanning purposes".
He was visited by Gauteng ANC chairperson Paul Mashatile and the party and country's Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, Mthembu said.
