Helicopter crashes in KZN

Pietermaritzburg - A helicopter crashed in the Pietermaritzburg city centre on Saturday, injuring all five occupants.

According to ER24 paramedics, the Jetranger helicopter crashed onto Mayors Walk without hitting any buildings, or injuring anybody else.

"Paramedics on the scene treated two people for critical injuries and three for moderate injuries," said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

However, Netcare 911 said four people were injured, two critically.

All the occupants were treated at the scene and taken to nearby hospitals.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and will be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.

The road has been closed off to the public.
