Johannesburg - A man was killed and two other people injured during a house robbery in Kenmare, Krugersdorp, where the community rallied to help stop the suspects from getting away, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, three people, aged between 32 and 34, broke into a house in the suburb of Kenmare and held up the occupants, Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said.
The robbers took the keys to a Mercedes-Benz and a scuffle ensued between the group and the people living in the house.
Shots were fired and a 32-year-old woman was injured.
"The community mobilised after hearing gunshot sounds and managed to block the suspects at corner Meath and Lismore streets," Mofokeng said.
"The suspects fired shots towards the community and members of the community retaliated and fired back."
One of the robbers was killed and a second one injured. The third person was not hurt and he and his injured accomplice were arrested on the scene.
Mofokeng said three firearms with live ammunition, the Mercedes-Benz and a silver BMW were recovered.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court soon.
