"The man claimed that he was on his way to East London after receiving the news that his brother passed away. The officers on scene tried to verify the excuse, with no success," spokesperson Busaphi Nxumalo said.
The driver, 42, a quality manager at Mercedes Benz, was arrested on the N1, a 120km/h zone, just after the Murrayhill interchange around 22:30 on Sunday.
He was taken to the Sinoville police station and charged with reckless or negligent driving, with an alternative charge of speeding. More than 15 motorists were arrested over the weekend for speeding and reckless driving.
