Mickey-Mouse parties can't rule - Ramaphosa

Pretoria - Newly-formed political parties do not have the capacity to run the administration of the country, ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa said in Pretoria on Sunday.

"Our achievements in the last 20 years provides a firm foundation on which we can build a better South Africa for everyone," he told supporters at the launch of the party's Gauteng provincial manifesto.

"Our achievements demonstrate that the ANC is the only organisation that has the ability, experience and commitment to lead the ongoing struggle for a better life for all. We have the experience, we are not mafikizolo [newcomers]," he said.

Thousands braved the light showers and gathered at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, west of Pretoria. Ramaphosa urged the crowd to shun the new inexperienced political parties.

"They arrive today and they think they can hoodwink the people of South Africa saying they can run South Africa better. We know they won't have the experience, ability and capacity to do so."

"Only the ANC has to go back to the Union Buildings to continue to build South Africa, not all these other Mickey-Mouse parties," he said.

Significant achievements have been made in improving lives of citizens since 1994, said Ramaphosa.

"We have robust democratic institutions because we, the ANC, do things in the interests of all South Africans and not only a section of the people."

"We have put in place a democratic constitution, what is regarded as the best constitution in the world. It is the ANC [which was] leading everyone in this country to make sure that we have such a democratic constitution," he said.

Several members of the SA Communist Party in red regalia were also in the stadium.
