Cape Town - Charges have been withdrawn against an Austrian man who was arrested in Seychelles after a Cape Town yachtsmen went missing, it was reported on Monday.
The Cape Times reported that Seychelles authorities withdrew a case of negligence against Stefan Pokorny, of Austria, last week.
This was after he had told authorities that Sean Terry, 48, who grew up in Cape Town, had fallen overboard while the pair were on a yacht in June.
The yacht arrived at Cotivy on June 25 with only Pokorny aboard.
At the time of his disappearance, Terry's family said in a press release that a man-overboard signal had not been activated.
The family told the newspaper that the case was withdrawn as "the incident took place in international waters and is therefore outside of their jurisdiction".
"We cannot believe Sean is missing, presumed dead, without a trial or a full inquiry having taken place to determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance," the family said.
The family was seeking legal advice.
