Johannesburg - Twelve people were arrested in Moloto on Tuesday morning for beating a woman suspected of practising witchcraft, Mpumalanga police said.
The 12, aged between 18 and 46, were to appear in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate's Court at 15:00, said Captain Leonard Hlathi.
The 62-year-old woman was asleep in her home on Monday night when she heard knocking at her door, he said, adding: "She opened and the mob pulled her outside and began beating her."
Hlathi said they locked her inside a rondavel and were deciding whether to burn her or talk to her.
"While they were arguing, the woman managed to escape," he said.
Her home was later burnt down.
She alerted authorities and was treated for her injuries.
