Person dies in KZN truck fire

Durban - A person was killed and another was critically injured when a truck caught fire on the N2 between Kokstad and Mount Ayliff, KwaZulu-Natal emergency medical services said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Robert McKenzie said in a statement that paramedics were alerted to the fire at around midnight.

"The preceding events and the circumstances resulting in the truck catching fire were a mystery to the paramedics when they arrived on the scene, which was in the border area of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape," he said.

Local residents pulled the critically injured patient from the burning truck before paramedics arrived.

A second person was declared dead on the scene.

Police would investigate the cause of the fire, McKenzie said.
