Hawks spokesperson Colonel McIntosh Polela has apologised on Twitter for a comment he posted about convicted musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye.
“My tweet about Jub Jub on Tuesday nite [sic] was in poor taste,” he said yesterday.
“I profoundly regret posting [it] and hereby retract it. Je suis desole [I’m sorry]0”.
On Tuesday, he tweeted about Maarohanye’s first night in prison after he was convicted on four counts of murder, two of attempted murder, using drugs, racing on a public road, and driving under the influence of drugs.
His co-accused Themba Tshabalala was also convicted of the same charges in the Protea Magistrate’s Court.
“I trust that JubJub’s supporters gave him a jar of Vaseline to take to prison,” Polela posted at the time.
His tweet made news headlines with many criticising him as a Hawks official, and one twitter user asked him: “What’s Vaseline for in prison?,” to which Polela replied, “Polishing specialised prison shoes!”
His Twitter account also says: “My tweets are 4 my tweeps. No publishing”.
