Quiet outside Mandela hospital

Johannesburg - It was quiet outside the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria on Sunday where former president Nelson Mandela was hospitalised.

There was little activity at the hospital entrance, but in earlier weeks, hundreds of people had come to place flowers, cards and posters for Madiba.

Others had posed for pictures at the wall and church groups had come to pray and light candles for Madiba.

People on Sunday made their way past the hospital, with hardly giving attention to the wall.

The media's presence had also dwindled in the last few weeks.

Only one video camera was placed outside the Park Street entrance of the hospital while a handful of journalists sat in their cars.

The former president is spending his 97th day in hospital.

Security at the facility remained tight with police checking all vehicles entering the premises.

Mandela was hospitalised with a recurring lung infection on 8 June.

The presidency said on Saturday that he remained critical but stable while at times his condition becomes unstable.
