Johannesburg - A microbrewery and restaurant in Muldersdrift has been named the best British restaurant in the world outside of the UK.
The competition calls for people from all corners of the globe to vote for their favourite British restaurant, pub or shop. After this a short list is set up, from which a panel of judges make their final selection based on the number of votes and motivation.
Gilroy received 1 000 votes, which came as a huge surprise to Irish owner, Steve Gilroy.
He told Beeld that he was completely blown away when he received an email from the British paper informing him that his "little restaurant" had won.
Before opening his restaurant in Muldersdrift, Gilroy started brewing beer in his garage and later in a section of the print shop that he ran. He produces a variety of beers, and some have even been named the best in the Southern Hemisphere by the Diners Club magazine's beer club.
