Johannesburg - Several shops were looted on Thursday
during violent protests in Langa near Uitenhage, said Eastern Cape police.
Police spokesperson Marinda Mills said a community hall
was set alight and vehicles were pelted with stones.
"Four people have been arrested. The suspects will
appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court soon on charges of public
violence," said Mills.
There was still a strong police presence in the area on
Thursday evening.
"We have deployed sufficient members to intensify
visible policing and to react immediately on any situation which might
occur," said Mills.
