Selebi gets 15 years behind bars

Cape Town - Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in the South Gauteng High Court on Tuesday.

"I am satisfied that a sentence of 15 years imprisonment is appropriate in the matter," said Judge Meyer Joffe.

Selebi got bail of R20 000 and must file an appeal within 14 days or go to jail.

Selebi was found guilty last month of corruption by Joffe after he had received more than R200 000 from drug trafficker Glenn Agliotti.

Agliotti is on trial for the murder of Brett Kebble.
