Syria regime will fall, warns France

Paris - French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said on Monday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime will fall if it continues its bloody repression of demonstrations.

"If the regime perseveres down this path [of repression], it will fall, one day or another, but it will fall," said Juppe.

"Today there is this great hope for freedom and democracy. You must take this into account and putting it down by firing live rounds into crowds is unacceptable whichever country does it," he said.

Rights groups say that government forces killed dozens of Syrian protesters over the weekend, bringing the overall death toll from unprecedented demonstrations against Assad's regime that erupted on March 15 to over 580.
