Teen's murder possibly a hate crime

Cape Town - Six people arrested in Primrose, Boksburg, in the early hours of Friday morning for unlicensed firearms might be involved in the brutal murder of a 15-year-old teen from an informal settlement nearby.

Sibusiso Titimani was stabbed to death last Saturday in an open field near his home in Primrose informal settlement, The Star reported.

“Just as I was about to wash my feet, a boy came to my door. He shouted: ‘mama ka Sibusiso! uyashaywa uSibusiso ngamabhunu’ [Sibusiso is being beaten up by the boers],” his mother, Thandiwe, told the newspaper.

Titimani and an 18-year-old friend were attacked by three men apparently wearing balaclavas and military uniforms.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer William Masondo said that the six people were arrested at 03:00 on Friday morning. Five of them were white males and one was a white woman.

Masondo could not confirm whether Titimani’s killing was a hate crime but the teenager’s mother said she had heard there were previous attacks in the field by “white men who say they are taking revenge for Eugene Terre'Blanche”.

Chris Mahlangu was found guilty of the 2010 murder of the right-wing AWB leader.
