Steenberg Community Policing Forum chairperson Gavin Walbrugh awarded the ballerinas of the Guardians of the National Treasure (GNT) Dance School with the CAFDA-Spirit Award on Human Rights Day March 21 March. The event was at Blode Street in Lavender Hill.
The GNT Dance School is six-weeks- old and had their first public performance at a sports event on Thursday to commemorate Human Rights day.
The ballet classes were started to keep the girls busy and teach them something valuable and to take pride in themselves and be proud of where they come from.
GNT is a non-profit organisation that helps underprivileged children and families on a daily basis with food, education, clothing, sports and other activities in Lavender Hill. The GNT works to champion culture and community spirit through voluntary and community action, working inclusively and non-violently with the community. The organisation believes sport will change things for the good in the area.
