Christianity makes you immoral.

Christianity makes you immoral.

Immorality is often thought to refer to sexual promiscuity and infidelity but it is more than that. It is to conduct your life in violation of moral laws and principles. It is the quality of not being in accord with standards of right or good conduct.

New research (*) confirms that religions do have an effect on social behaviour and the strong belief in a forgiving God and a "get out of hell card" (Christianity) rather than a punishing God, (Islam) leads to a greater tendency for moral laxity.

The ancient but wise Christian philosopher Pelagius (**) pointed this out long ago when he said “the Christian version of salvation promoted by Augustine, leads to "moral laxity" as believers are "saved" regardless of their actions as these have no consequences in relation to their salvation.” Jerome emerged as one of the chief critics of Pelagius, because, according to him, sin was a part of human nature and we couldn't help but sin. Augustine, Calvin and Luther established the Christian teachings (doctrines) of “original sin” and that of “being born in totally depravity”.

Christianity is thus a salvation religion based primarily on forgiveness and pardon for sins. This allows one to commit dastardly deeds and then repent ask for forgiveness and go to heaven to be with Jesus in his mansion in the sky. Take the tragic shooting rampage, committed by madman James Holmes a normal Presbyterian Christian boy in Colorado, USA at a Batman premier. If he and other evil murderers, rapists, etc, who sin because it is part of their human nature and they cannot help but sin, repent, give their life’s to the Lord, and become ‘born again relationship with Jesus Christians” they are instantly pardoned by the blood of Jesus, just as if, they did not commit their criminal acts. Does that make sense?

Well you better belief it because that is what both main branches of Christianity teach and preach. We are all born morally depraved, tainted with the original sin of Adam and we are in need of a saviour to deliver us from our sin.  If you sin as a new born creature in Christ, once you are saved and born again, you have an advocate Jesus Christ; who says to the Almighty Judge do not look at him, look at me, for I am perfect and I gave my life as a sacrifice (atonement) to pay for their sins so that they can go free and receive no punishment just as if they have not sinned. Crazy! I know.

Who in their right mind would want to reject Christ the Saviour, the advocate, the one who loves me and gives me his righteousness; irrespective of who I am, wither I deserve to go to heaven or not? What a sales pitch, its no wonder mega Churches are flush with funds, luxury cars, mansions, jets etc. It’s financed by all the indulgences that unsaved sinners and saved sinners have to pay in the form of tithes and offerings. If they did not humble themselves, bow the knee to Jesus and pay up they would be robbing God and rejecting Christ and would not get into heaven.

If you go to hell as punishment for immorality you tend to live a more moral life caused by fear of hell and damnation. That is why people come to Christ, so that their fear of hell is turned to jubilation of being allowed into heaven, irrespective of their “own self righteousness” for all personal sin is forgiven and forgotten. So they are not waiting in horror and fear for a “hole in the ground” (hell) they are waiting, in hope and expectancy for a “hole in the sky” (heaven).

Hell acts as a divine deterrent and societies with a strong belief in hell have lower crime-rates, where as those that have a stronger belief in a forgiving God, rather than a punishing God, leads to a greater tendency for moral laxity. When it comes to predicting criminal behaviour, the specific religious beliefs one holds is the determining factor. Criminal activity is lower in societies where people’s religious beliefs contain a strong punitive component than in places where religious beliefs are more benevolent. The key finding is that a nation’s rate of belief in hell predicts lower crime rates, but the nation’s rate of belief in heaven predicts higher crime rates. (*)

By propagating the notion that people are born sinners and Satan rules the world, you have given them an excuse for their bad behaviour.  If you then say that their sins are forgiven, by repentance and salvation - what happens when they sin again? So the cycle of sin and repentance continues “till death do us part” or you de-convert before you go insane like many God fearing and faithful commentators on Mynews24 all ready are.

Hansie Cronje blamed “the Devil” when he fell into sin by participating in match fixing. If mankind is born morally depraved and under the spell of Satan, why did the atheists and other Christians in Hansie’s cricket team not also fall into sin, like he did? So people are more likely to keep on sinning if the only consequence is forgiveness and repentance as they are still going to paradise because of Christ’s sacrifice.

I would not trust most Christians I know as far as I could throw them. Pelagius was wise, and realised that this belief would lead to "moral laxity", which is quite evident in predominantly Christian South Africa. When Christians are taught that they are "born sinners" and as such they cannot help but sin there is no ground for them to be moral. Even if they are moral and “good” they are told that they are bad and that their own righteousness is like filthy rags. What? Yes.

Religion is an enormous part of our culture as it defines the way people think, behave, and relate to one another. IMHO, religion causes many of the negative aspects of our society and I would far rather have reason, critical thinking and scientific knowledge affect our ideas and choices instead of superstition, fear, and the unproven supernatural. No one has come back from hell or heaven to tell us that they and the devil, Jesus and God are real. Christianity is the perfect crutch because it allows belief to take precedence over action. It lets people off the hook in terms of their behaviour, which really is the only sound way to form an opinion of a person. Once the thoughts going through your head become more important than what you are or do, you're a “screwed-up” individual.

Imagine a world with out religion and very one was an atheist. What would it be like? It is too soon to tell, may be in a hundred years from now, we would know. My experience of atheism has been good. I am not a Satan worshipper or a God hater (as they do not exist) or a murderer, rapist, adulterer, etc and have yet to experience the negatives and horrors of atheism suggested by cowardly and jealous Christians.

They are cowards; because they do not have the guts to dump their crutch and walk by sight, they prefer to walk by faith in the unseen and unknown as if it was a virtue; jealous, because atheists have a much simpler lifestyle, whereas theirs is not.

Atheists are not bigots, they do not hate anyone or anything, they are not racists as we all come from Africa, they do not practise elitism or exclusivity, they do not waste precious time and emotional energy on destructive thought processes praying to the ceiling or vegetating in Church or reading the obsolete, primitive, pre science, pre Darwin, pre Higgs boson Bible.
