Pretoria - Cope leader Mosiuoa Lekota on Wednesday called on Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate irregularities regarding RDP houses in Atteridgeville and surrounding areas.
“People in Pretoria have been given a raw deal with regards to the RDP housing and we have come to ask the Public Protector to look into this matter because there has been as serious abuse of power, which we think must be investigated,” Lekota told reporters.
He believed Madonsela’s office was best suited to probe residents’ allegations. He did not divulge the nature of the complaint, saying it still had to be investigated.
Madonsela would not say what the matter was about, but indicated that her office was already working on a similar investigation. As was standard procedure with her office, they would first assess the complaint to see how they could help.
“In this particular instance the complaint falls into a systematic investigation which we are in the process of finalising, which is dealing with all sorts of allegations,” Madonsela said.
Her office would see if the new complaint was already covered by the larger investigation or if it was a new dimension, in which case it would be included in her report.
She said she would let Lekota know by Friday.
