Parliament – Controversial former IEC chairperson Pansy Tlakula has been shortlisted for a position within the newly-established information regulator.
Parliament's portfolio committee on justice and correctional services shortlisted candidates for board vacancies within the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and the information regulator on Wednesday.
For the five positions at the information regulator, 10 candidates were shortlisted, including Tlakula.
The other candidates are Johannes Weapond, David Taylor, Advocate Lebogang Stroom, Lindelo Snail, Siyakhula Simelane, Thav Reddy, Francois Cronje, Shamila Singh and Tana Pistorius.
For the SAHRC, the committee shortlisted eight candidates for the two vacancies.
The candidates are Professor Rushiella Songca, Andre Gaum, Lindelwe Mabandla, Edward Lambani, Anandroy Ramdaw, Kwena Ntsewa and Hassen Ebrahim.
Tlakula left the IEC in 2014 after 13 years at the helm.
This was after she came under fire from political parties in 2014, following a forensic investigation by Treasury into the procurement of the IEC's Riverside Office Park building in Centurion, Pretoria.
The probe found the process was neither fair, transparent, nor cost-effective.
Political parties called for Tlakula's head, saying she had been compromised.
