Cape Town – A man accused of killing a Khayelitsha woman on her 21st birthday might cut a deal with the State, the Western Cape High Court heard on Friday.
Monwabisi Mbombo, 24, a magician and entertainer by trade, is accused of killing Anelisa Dulaze, who was missing for three months before her body was found in May 2016.
The court heard during his pre-trial hearing on Friday that the State and defence were in negotiations for a possible plea and sentencing agreement.
The matter was postponed for another pre-trial hearing on April 21.
Anelisa went missing while celebrating her 21st birthday at a tavern in Town Two, Khayelitsha, on January 31, 2016.
Closure
According to the State, Anelisa and the accused got into an argument on the night of her party and witnesses reported that he assaulted her.
Her buried body was discovered just before concrete for a planned block of flats was to be laid in Makhaza.
The site where her body, with hands bound, was found is on a plot neighbouring the suspect's home.
Anelisa was a drama student who had been planning to return to Wits University to complete her studies after financial difficulties forced her to drop out.
Her mother Vathiswa Dulaze previously told News24 she finally had closure after her daughter's body was found.
The accused had gone to primary school with her daughter, Vathiswa said, adding that Anelisa and her friends knew him "very well".
