Cape Town – Police are investigating the death of a worker who drowned in a wine vat in Malmesbury on Sunday.
They are also investigating the business where the alcohol was produced, Netwerk24 reported.
Abraham Fortuin, 44, was found floating in a plastic vat on Sunday around 12:00 in a factory in the industrial area of Malmesbury. He was allegedly overcome by fumes when he got into the vat to retrieve a bucket. He had been cleaning the tanks with a co-worker.
The Swartland Gazette reported that Fortuin lost consciousness and then drowned in the knee-deep wine.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says Fortuin was declared dead at the scene.
In March, James Williams drowned after he fell into a wine tank at the Thelema wine estate in Stellenbosch.
