Man killed in an explosion at work

Johannesburg - A man was killed in an explosion while working in the back of a truck at a company in Gram Road in Middleburg on Friday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found the lifeless body of a man lying roughly 30 metres away from a large tipper truck.

"On assessment, paramedics found that the man had already succumbed to his fatal burn wounds. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene."

Meiring said the man had been working on the back of the truck when the explosion occurred.

"He had apparently been using a grinder on the back of the vehicle."

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
