Man shoots, kills armed robber in Cape Town CBD

Cape Town – A Cape Town man confronted by robbers in the city centre put up a fight and shot one of them dead, Western Cape police said on Wednesday.

The two had threatened him with knives after he parked his vehicle in Strand Street on Tuesday afternoon, said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

They grabbed the 30-year-old’s cellphone and wallet.

“The victim produced his licenced firearm and fatally wounded one of the robbers, a 25-year-old man,” Traut said.

His accomplice managed to flee with the man's possessions.

Traut said they were investigating the shooting. Armed robbery and inquest case dockets were opened.
