Parts of N2 near Knysna closed due to protests for the second night in a row

Sections of the N2 near Knysna and Plettenberg Bay were closed due to protest action on Wednesday.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said that the N2 leading to Nekkies and Khayalethu was closed. By 21:00 this part of the highway was reopened, but is remained closed near Plettenberg Bay to the ongoing protests there.

"They are burning things in the street and throwing stones at police," Africa said.

On Tuesday, a police officer was rushed to hospital when protesters started pelting emergency service staff members with stones.

The cause of the protest is unclear.
