Police officials who continue to go above and beyond the call of duty in ensuring that Northern Cape communities are safe were honoured on Thursday, 22 November, by Lt Gen. Risimati Shivuri, Northern Cape police commissioner.
The annual provincial excellence awards, hosted at Flamingo View in Kimberley, was attended by Sylvia Lucas, premier of the Northern Cape, Wende Marekwa, executive mayor of the Frances Baard District, Lebogang Mothlaping, MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, as well as several other MECs and national and provincial lieutenant generals.
The event was preceded by a medal parade earlier in the day.
The awards categories included: Adult Education and Training (AET) learner of the year, reservist of the year, sportsman of the year, person with disability of the year, man of the year, woman of the year, best station of the year, best administration employee of the year, best visible policing employee of the year and best senior manager of the year.
The winners received a trophy, certificate and a voucher, while runners-up received a certificate and a voucher.
The premier gave the keynote address. Lucas expressed appreciation towards all members of the police who are always willing to go the extra mile, and urged others to also play a role in the fight against crime.
