Johannesburg – A case of grievous bodily harm has been opened against a Grade 10 pupil who poured hot water on a fellow pupil after an apparent argument, the Gauteng Education Department said on Tuesday.
Gauteng education spokesperson, Steve Mabona, said the incident happened at the Buhlebemfundo School in Tsakane on Thursday, September 14.
An argument apparently took place between the two Grade 10 pupils aged 16 and 18, which prompted the 16-year-old to allegedly pour hot water on the other pupil.
“The victim is receiving medical attention and a case of grievous bodily harm has been opened against the alleged perpetrator at the Tsakane South African Police Service.”
Mabona said the alleged perpetrator was released into her parents’ custody and had been suspended from school pending disciplinary processes.
“The department wishes the learner a speedy recovery and reiterates its position of zero tolerance against violence,” he said.
