Johannesburg - A man was caught at OR Tambo International Airport in possession of more than 5kg cocaine on Sunday.
According to Sars Customs spokesperson, Sandile Memela, the drugs found in the man’s possession is estimated to have a street value of approximately R1 438 500.
“Initially the traveller indicated he had no luggage. Upon further questioning, the traveller admitted to be the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Sao Paolo,” Memela said.
The man was searched and apart from a 5kg bag of cocaine, a detector dog found three smaller bags that contained drugs in the man’s luggage.
The man was handed over to the South African Police.
