Radisson officially paints Cape Town's trendy Silo District RED

Cape Town – The REDvolution has landed in Africa and has officially opened its doors to the public from 12 September 2017. We were welcomed by the excited and rather hyper hotel mascot, Baxter. This little Boston Terrier wagged his adorable little tail as we walked into the hotel.

It is bold, alive and RED

The millennial-centric hotel has lived up to its promises with a unique focus on attention to detail and exciting amenities.

Spending a night in the new and funky hotel has left us wanting to set up shop as the new ‘residents’ of the Radisson RED. And from the outside looking in, entrenching the hotel’s philosophy on providing synergy in the implementation of customer services, a casual approach, and innovation must have been no small feat.

And it certainly does echo throughout the hotel.

Ease of Access

The iconic red doors will lure you in with excitement as you make your way into the foyer where Baxter is bound to be waiting for you.  The self–check in points implemented at the reception of the hotel, allow travellers a different sort of freedom with a relaxed pace as they commence their stay. But the ‘creatives’ as the hotel concierges are called are always around to help you if necessary.

The hotel also allows customers to have a choice in the service delivery.

If you're a savvy entrepreneur with back to back meetings, whose work schedule is anything but traditional - then the snack and grab station allows you to keep up with the busy pace of your day. For those wanting to Netflix and chill, there is also an in-house restaurant Ouibar for your convenience.

Ouibar offers an all–day breakfast, allowing you the freedom of choice because well…who said you can’t have bacon and eggs for dinner?

Technological and industry innovation

Radisson Red sets the benchmark high for industry innovation as they implement the system of ‘FLOW' - all the staff are trained in multiple tasks across the hotel.

The aim of this initiative is to allow the service to come to you, as a creative states, “We do not want you to have to look for the service or work for it because that is our job”.

Service is a top priority and no matter who you to speak to, they should be able to assist you. I'm told the human resources manager is said to have some 'serious barista skills'.

And in the era of on-demand consumption and entertainment, Red is on trend. The hotel's televisions are equipped with state of the art synchronization tools – that allow you to showcase content off your phone and onto the screens. Fear not, this is protected by over 155 firewalls and can be useful during presentations and not just entertainment.

As you make your way to the Ouibar, there is a selfie screen that allows you to capture a candid picture that will be shared on the hotel’s social media accounts.  Travellers are encouraged to share their views of the hotel on social media platforms - so you know they mean business when it comes to exceeding your expectations.

Design filled bedroom of your dreams

Opening the door to your hotel room, you are awakened by the vibrant and iconic RED designed wall. The room is filled with fresh organic colours. And if that doesn't delight you, turn your attention to the sweeping views of the Table Bay Harbour and Cape Town.

Any traveller who has a wild mane to tame each morning will know the feeling of forgetting to pack your professional hairdryer. As I opened my bags to unpack, realising my error, I surrendered myself to being a bed-head the next day. To my surprise and utter relief - the hotel is equipped with a salon style hair dryer that gets the job done.

The shower is also child-friendly, which ensures little ones cannot raise the water temperature to scorching levels. Under the second lever, there is a safety button that when pressed increases the hot water temp from warm to ‘adult steamy’.

Events and Local is lekker

Art, design, fashion, and music are the main elements of the hotel and the Call of the Loin event to be held every Friday afternoon incorporates this. It is a rooftop event filled with music, delicious food, and a true Capetonian vibe. There will be regular show cases of art and music at the hotel.

Focusing on local creatives and supporting them – the hotel commenced the official opening with an unveiling of a piece of art work done by a local artist - instead of the traditional cutting of the ribbon.

Green Initiative

The hotel is Green Leaf Certified – it complies with all the necessary regulations to be considered an eco-friendly building. The goal of the hotel is to achieve above 32 percent usage and output of renewable energy, this is aided by the use of LED lights across the hotel, supplemented by solar panel power.

Economic growth and tourism plans

This is the first Radisson Red to hit African soil and with only five in the world - it is a unique advantage to the tourism sector. So far the hotel has implemented over 110 new jobs and over 70 percent are being filled by members of the youth as stated by Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille.

Simpson says the Red hotel will serve as a hub for local job creation and globally relevant skills development – "especially as we focus on employing unique staff with more than just traditional qualifications and prior hospitality experience. This will open up the playing field to a much wider range of talented candidates.”

With some 100 guests already checked in, the buzz of the REDvolution is truly being felt in the V&A's Silo district, and it certainly intends to have a positive effect on South Africa and the tourism sector overall.
