SEVERAL high school pupils came closer to realising their dreams of studying civil engineering after attending a scholarship induction programme hosted by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) in Durban.
Three Wembley College pupils were among the 20 from KZN high schools awarded Sanral scholarships providing them with a platform to pursue a career in civil engineering.
The scholarship programme is offered to pupils from Grade 10 to 12 who excel in mathematics and science.
Uzair Aslaf, in Grade 11 at Wembley College, was inspired by Sanral's involvement in the built and said: "My favourite subjects are physical science, accounting, geography and history. My ambition is to attend the 2020 Olympics and compete in boxing. I also plan to study engineering and attain my professional engineering certificate."
Robyn Pamela Steyn, also a Grade 11 pupil at Wembley College, is grateful to have received a Sanral scholarship which will motivate her to achieve her desired goals. She enjoys biology, chemistry and geography.
Renier David van Rooyen, a Grade 11 pupil at Wembley College enjoys physics, chemistry, English, mathematics and information & communication technology. He expressed his appreciation at being part of grateful he was of Sanral scholarship programme and plans to work hard to obtain a university bursary to pursue a career in civil or design engineering.
